I am sure many must be wondering what happens at the end of my weight loss plan. What about the pasta that Angel LOVES so much? (HAHA) I have to admit that following a low-to-no carb diet has been challenging, because pasta has always been my FAVORITE food to eat. I have stuck to the diet, but that does not mean I do not miss having pasta from time to time.
Naturally, if I resume my previous eating habits, and reintroduce all of the carbohydrates back into my diet that I removed – I will regain my weight. For the most part, this really needs to be less of a diet and more of a life style change. However, I cannot honestly say that I am willing to do without pasta for the rest of my life. There has to be some way I can maintain my weight loss and still enjoy something that I love.
Sure, there are alternatives, such as organic, soy, wheat, or other substitute pastas, but I have tried those alternatives, and they are not the same. I do not think we should have to eat something as a substitute and try to convince ourselves that it actually tastes good, when it does not. Trust me when I tell you that many of those substitutes smell a little funny, are not very tasty, and the consistency – UGH!
The good news is that there is pasta that is low carb and it is FANTASTIC! Yes, you read that correctly. I found it in my local grocery store a few years ago, and I could not believe it – the name of this miracle pasta is Dreamfields. Okay, so you must be wondering why I have not been eating that all along. Unfortunately, shortly after I found it, my grocery store stopped carrying it. However, recently my store brought it back, and although I am not eating any pasta right now, when I finish the weight loss plan in April – I will buy Dreamfield’s pasta, to eat periodically. In addition, they have a national store locator on their site, for retail stores and online outlets that carry their pasta, for any of you who might like to try it out.
Here is a tidbit of information that I pulled directly from their web site:
http://www.dreamfieldsfoods.com
“Dreamfields is a delicious pasta with twice the fiber (5 grams; 20% of the daily recommendation), fewer digestible carbs and a lower glycemic index than traditional pasta. Its delectable taste and nutritional benefits make it a healthful option for people with diabetes and a flavorful, nourishing pasta for the entire family.”
“Like other premium pastas, Dreamfields Pasta is made primarily with durum wheat semolina, which is why it tastes great. The pasta is unique because:
Dreamfields’ patent-pending recipe and manufacturing process protects all but 5 grams of the carbohydrates per serving from being digested and therefore lessens post-meal blood glucose rise as compared to traditional pasta.
Dreamfields contains inulin, a 100 percent natural prebiotic fiber found in common foods such as artichokes, asparagus, garlic and raisins. By providing a food source for the healthy bacteria living in the gut, prebiotics such as inulin may: help promote healthy digestion, support a healthy immune system, and improve calcium absorption. Inulin is a soluble fiber (like that found in oats, peas and apples) which means it dissolves easily in water and may improve regularity. Soluble fiber can also help reduce cholesterol and glucose levels.
Dreamfields Pasta is the only pasta clinically shown to have a lower glycemic index than traditional pasta (65% lower).
Dreamfields has all of the taste and texture of traditional pastas. “
I am beyond excited, because I do not have to give up pasta. I can eat it within moderation, and eat a healthier version of a pasta that tastes great!!!
Until next time – NO DEFEAT … NO LIMITATIONS!
