Okay, fellow flaabers – do any of you really think that mashed cauliflower is an adequate substitute for mashed potatoes? I tried it. Seriously, it was not that great. Don’t get me wrong – I like cauliflower, but I also know what it is, and I do not expect it to taste like something other than cauliflower. Why should we try to convince ourselves that some of these “so-called” substitutes are sufficient when they are not? No matter how much I like bologna, it will never taste like Filet Mignon. Veggie burgers will never taste like hamburgers, and tofurkey – well, need I say more?
I am not saying that these substitutes are bad for you, if that is what you enjoy eating, but do not fall for delusion that these foods taste like anything other than what they actually are. Scrambled tofu is not anything like scrambled eggs.
Now if you dig tofu, then by all means – eat it! Enjoy it, sauté it or bake it, but make sure that you own it. Many people enjoy tofu, soy, veggie burgers, and mashed cauliflower. However, if you do not like any of those items, find something to eat that you do enjoy, and that fits within your weight loss or nutritional eating plan. You do not need to torture yourself with substitutes that are not palatable or do not adequately feed your cravings.
When I chose this weight loss plan, I chose to remove the majority of carbohydrates from my diet, which unfortunately includes mashed potatoes. However, you do not have to give up potatoes. There are many ways to prepare your favorite spuds, to make them healthier. For instance, instead of mashing with butter and milk, chicken broth is a popular choice today, and is better for your diet.
Shop around for a tasty butter flavored seasoning, if you want to add a little butter flavor to your potatoes without all of the fat. Instead of regular eggs, try Egg Beaters, which is a healthier alternative, but still gives you the same great taste of scrambled eggs.
Eating healthier may take a little more time and research, but it will be worth it, when you discover nutritious ways to eat the foods that you love, without gaining weight!!
Until next time – NO DEFEAT … NO LIMITATIONS!
